Coroner announces cause of ex-Megadeth drummer Nick Menza’s death

The former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza‘s death has been officially been released by a coroner after he collapsed on stage on May 21.

Officials have stated that Menza died of natural causes, County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner listed a single cause of death – hypertensive and atherosclerosis cardiovascular disease. Meaning that eye witness accounts from the show were confirmed as a heart attack.

Nick Menza had been playing at The Baked Potato on May 21 with his band OHM before collapsing on stage mid-set, from what people at the show said to be seizure and heart attack like.

Tributes over the past week have been pouring in for the iconic drummer who played on four MEGADETH albums, Rust In Peace (1990), Countdown to Extinction (1992), Youthanasia (1994) and Cryptic Writings (1997). Front-man of MEGADETH Dave Mustaine has described Menza as a “great friend, a true professional and a larger-than-life personality.” At the band’s next show, Mustaine held a moment’s silence for his former band-mate and friend.

Mustaine has also confirmed that he is planning a tribute concert, every surviving member of MEGADETH have been invited to take part.
