Rock world pays tribute to David Bowie after death from cancer
Members of the rock world have today paid tribute to legendary English musician DAVID BOWIE, who has passed away, aged 69.
It was revealed early on Monday morning that the singer had been fighting a secret battle with liver cancer, and had passed away in his New York apartment.
A statement posted on the Bowie’s official website reads as follows:
“January 10 2016 – David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
Tributes soon began pouring in from across the world as news of the singer’s death began to spread:

Perhaps best known for his Ziggy Stardust and Thin White Duke personas, Bowie first shot to fame with the release of his 1969 single Space Oddity. He would soon go on to become a bona fide musical icon, with songs including Starman, Let’s Dance, Under Pressure, Changes, Life On Mars, Suffragette City, Heroes and many more. Ever-changing, Bowie’s music shifted genres constantly throughout his career – evoking elements of glam-rock, soul, pop, industrial and, most recently, jazz.
Bowie’s twenty-fifth and now-final album Blackstar, had been released just two days prior – on the singer’s 69th birthday. The album was described by producer Tony Visconti as being a “parting gift” from Bowie to his fans. The video for the single Lazarus can be viewed below:
