EP REVIEW: White Death – Mission To Sleep

MISSION TO SLEEP are back with their second EP White Death. The band themselves have taken elements from post-grunge, post-rock and alternative genres with the result being songs that are hard-hitting and melodic – essentially, a balance between aggression and vulnerability. And when it comes to this EP, it is genuinely hard to believe that MISSION TO SLEEP have only been releasing music for three years and that they’re not highly renowned within the scene.

Opening with Sine Of The Times, the first thing listeners are greeted with is heavy guitar that cuts in and out before the full band comes in, followed closely by vocals that can only be described as loud and powerful. The track has such a polished production that helps to highlight the beautiful blend of alternative rock and hardcore, tied together nicely with a catchy chorus. One song in and the band should already have your jaw on the floor.

Moving onto lead single Delirium, the band continue to offer a blend of alternative rock and heavier elements, this time appearing to move into nu-metal territory with the use of sound and vocal effects that cut in and out. If that doesn’t entice you enough, there’s also a catchy hook, guitar breakdowns, incredible vocals and a catchy chorus that give the track that anthemic edge that makes you want to scream the lyrics back.

Slo Fidelity goes in a different direction at first, with gentle sounds that help to create calming lo-fi vibes. Well, that is until the band shift back into alternative rock, this time infused with psychedelic effects, resulting in a song that we can only describe as so damn cool.  And then the band get to what is sadly the final track of the EP, Point Of Failure; it just screams of 90s nu-metal blended with industrial rock, with an incredible production that highlights MISSION TO SLEEP‘s talents as a band.

The only negative thing we can say about this EP is that it’s only four songs long, and that we need more. White Death is a fantastic EP that beautifully combines alternative rock with a number of elements from under the heavy rock umbrella. MISSION TO SLEEP are relatively new to the scene but it feels like they’ve been here for years, and we can’t wait to hear what comes next.
