EP REVIEW: The Forgotten – Orbit Culture
It’s been quite the rollercoaster for Swedish powerhouses ORBIT CULTURE, rocketing into the spotlight and touring with industry heavyweights such as TRIVIUM and MESHUGGAH. Their fourth full-length effort Descent is merely a few months old and is still being ravaged by their loyal fanbase but the band aren’t quite finished with 2023 just yet. Armed with another triple threat of tracks in the form of EP The Forgotten, jolly Saint Niklas and his heavy metal elves have got an early Christmas present for you, due for release on December 1st via Seek & Strike.
While We Serve hits like a sonic boom, clattering your ear drums with seismic force. Monstrous riffing and crushing drum beats topped off with Niklas‘ signature snarl are just what the doctor ordered – a certified pit anthem in the making. The Upheaval comes armed with a hefty invigorating tone that immediately furnishes your skin with goosebumps. The slow, pounding groove soon transitions into a chaotic barrage of multi-layered aggression.
Sound Of The Bell focuses on harnessing the band’s abundance of energy and channelling it into emotive melodies and poignant atmospherics whilst maintaining the underlying heaviness. If you choose to delve deeper the track possesses a rather harrowing narrative that shows the challenges the band are prepared to undertake. The flow of the track is impressively engaging and does a fantastic job of portraying a variety of moods throughout.
Not that it was ever in any doubt but ORBIT CULTURE have once again knocked it out of the park with this release. It is a testament to just how impeccable Descent actually is that these tracks didn’t make the cut as each one is an individual highlight reel more than capable of standing proudly on its own. Whether you need a boost on your commute or the motivation to go smash weights in the gym, The Forgotten is the perfect, bitesize powder keg to give you that surge of energy.
