Acid Mammoth announce new album ‘Supersonic Megafauna Collision’
ACID MAMMOTH have announced a new album!
Titled Supersonic Megafauna Collision, the upcoming album from the Greek doom metal band is the follow-up to 2021’s Caravan, and is scheduled to be released in April this year, via Heavy Psych Sounds.
The upcoming album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Descent Studio, with drums recorded at Ritual Studios. The artwork was created by Branca Studio.
Speaking about the upcoming album, vocalist/guitarist Chris Babalis Jr. says, “while the previous album was composed and recorded during a state of total COVID lockdown in 2020, our new album was composed and recorded after the world had gotten back to a new state of normalcy, after we had toured and played shows all over Europe, and all that enthusiasm and excitement we gathered while touring was put into this new album. We wanted to record a heavy and explosive album with lots of fuzz, that retains what made our sound great in our previous releases but take it a few steps further, and that’s exactly what we did. The album starts as a celebration of all things fuzzy with the title track Supersonic Megafauna Collision, and it just gets darker and darker as the album progresses, until it concludes in complete and utter heartbreak with the song Tusko’s Last Trip, telling the heart-wrenching real story of Tusko, an elephant who was murdered as a result of cruel human experimentation.”
Alongside the announcement of the new album, ACID MAMMOTH have released a new song lifted from the upcoming album; Atomic Shaman. Speaking about the new song, Babalis Jr. says, “the surface burns day and night, and dwellers of the deepest caverns have embraced the pitch-black corridors below as their new dominion. No one dares to venture above; it would only mean certain death by the all-consuming hellfire that came from the skies. The dwellers are secluded in the deep, chanting frenziedly and calling upon the spirits from the otherworld for salvation. This is the dismal world of Atomic Shaman, the track that opens side B of our upcoming new album. Our goal with this song was to capture all the despair and hopelessness of that horrific turn of events and put it in one song, greatly inspired by the 1986 movie Dead Man’s Letters.”
