EP REVIEW: Epiphany – Burn Down Eden

Hailing from Germany, BURN DOWN EDEN are merging brutality and harmony in a refreshingly beautiful light. Releasing new EP Epiphany, the successor to Dismal that was released earlier in the year. Well, successor may be the wrong turn of phrase. It’s actually part two of the album they’ve envisioned.

Now that Epiphany has dropped, you’ll be able to combine it and play it as originally intended, as a full-length album. But enough about the ‘right way’ to play this. Epiphany spans five tracks. And across these five songs you’re bombarded with a flurry of blast beats, serrated guitar riffs and dark growls.

EP opener Epistrophy bursts right into action like a left right punch combination that entwines the technical guitar prowess of dual stringers William & Tom with the aggressive drum work of Warni. Fake News For Breakfast is where we get into the grit of the EP showcasing the hideous impurities of humanity with its bleak depressing nature embodied within the haunted screams of front man Pether pouring from his deepest depths and a prime example of the lyricism on show throughout the EP.

But that’s where the technicality picks back up for the final three songs. Tears Of Persephone rips apart the fabric of technical guitar playing and sows it back together with its ugly bass tone from Marco that hurls a thick layer into your eardrums. Burn Down Eden has the speed infusion needed to pick you up and carry you through with an added high scream from Pether. You can hear the influences of the melodic death of times gone by pouring through the five songs. A pinch of AT THE GATES, and sprinkle of CHILDREN OF BODOM and a touch of WINTERSUN to add the proverbial cherry on top.

Even as the ‘album’ will be released again in 2025, albeit in a different order to the two EPs side to side, it’s an appetiser for the main course you’re all invited to.

Rating: 7/10
