Mastodon announce new album ‘Marrow Deep’
MASTODON have announced a brand new album!
Titled Marrow Deep, the upcoming release from the Atlanta progressive sludge metal titans is set for release on August 28th via Loma Vista Recordings. The band’s first new album since 2021’s Hushed And Grim sees founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders, and Bill Kelliher emerge from years of personal upheaval with a renewed sense of purpose.
Inspired by the Three Fates of Greek mythology and the fragile threads connecting life, loss, and destiny, the album marks the band’s first full-length to feature guitarist Nick Johnston and includes significant contributions from keyboardist João Nogueira. The record was co-produced by the band at West End Sound in Atlanta alongside Patrik Berger (LANA DEL REY, CHARLI XCX) and Kurt Ballou (HIGH ON FIRE, CONVERGE), mixed by Andrew Scheps (METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH, ADELE), and features a host of guest appearances yet to be revealed.
Speaking about the band’s new chapter, bassist and vocalist Troy Sanders shares, “Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we’ve got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us. That’s a magical feeling that makes us keep wanting to go to band practice. It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we’re united, and excited to get to work. And we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to do this record.”
Alongside the announcement, the band have released a new single, Snakes For Dinner, featuring QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE frontman Josh Homme. The track marks Homme‘s first appearance on a MASTODON recording since his contribution to Colony Of Birchmen from 2006’s Blood Mountain, with the song exploring themes of grief, loss, and moving forward. The new song is the second single to be released from the upcoming album, following on from Your Ghost Again, which was released last month.
