Metal For Nepal launches emergency appeal for Nepal floods
Metal For Nepal have launched an emergency fundraising appeal following severe flash floods which struck Nepal’s Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts on August 26th, displacing families, damaging infrastructure and leaving communities in urgent need of support.
The charity, which previously raised funds and coordinated relief efforts following the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, is once again mobilising through its network of local NGO partners to provide emergency assistance on the ground. While the organisation’s response will prioritise children, who are among the most vulnerable following natural disasters, relief efforts are intended to support affected community members of all ages.
According to reports, a sudden flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi River, impacting settlements in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, as well as the Gyirong border area between Nepal and China. Experts suspect the event may have been triggered by a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) originating in Tibet.
Among the reported impacts are extensive damage to villages and settlements along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers, while six major hydropower and transmission facilities have also been damaged, cutting an estimated 430MW of power generation capacity. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing, with the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police deployed alongside helicopter support.
Speaking about the appeal, Metal For Nepal director Flower KC shares, “we need to come together exactly like we did after the 2015 earthquake. The heavy metal and tattoo community has always shown up for people in need, and this moment is no different. Every donation goes straight toward getting families and children the support they need right now.”
The organisation is encouraging members of the heavy music community to support the appeal through donations, social media shares and raising awareness of the situation.
