ALBUM REVIEW: Bloodlands – Truth Corroded

Signing to one of the biggest labels in extreme metal is no easily achievable feat but Australian outfit TRUTH CORRODED have done just that. Their latest release Bloodlands is available now via Unique Leader Records and is certainly not for the faint of heart.

To The Carnal Earth skips the warm up and goes straight for the jugular with visceral riffing and an onslaught of drum beats. The distinctive talents of Terrance Hobbs make a strong declaration that TRUTH CORRODED aren’t here to mess around. The Leeches Fed maintains the tempo with frantic drum work and rapid shredding. The riff work is addictive and saturated with groove neatly topped off with a skin searing guest spot by Ryan KnightConquest Of Divide gears up for another assault with hard hitting guitar work providing nostalgic CHIMAIRA vibes. Waves of crushing instrumentation and overlaying melodies merge to forge a deadly combination.

Victims Left Lepers comes hurtling like a speeding bullet with relentless fury and an aggressive swagger. The energy levels continue to rise as the album progresses and if it continues in this fashion it will leave a pile of ash in its wake. The brief title track Bloodlands follows a different trail with an alluringly haunting atmosphere literally acting as the calm before The Storm. This track possesses a particular darkness with it’s ominous yet effective riffing and eerie floating vocal work before stepping up the pace. Of Open Eyes And Willing Hands refuses to relax as further instances of drum kit pummelling ensue courtesy of the mechanically precise Kevin Talley. The guitar work is ridiculously catchy and will give your neck a serious workout.

The End Of He Who Reigns speeds towards the finishing line like Usain Bolt with bludgeoning intensity. The riffs keep coming and they won’t stop coming. Impressive lead work leaves an emphatic footnote on this track and provide some of the albums highlights. I Once Breathed rumbles into view with an unnerving intro that feels like you’re about to be struck by an avalanche. This track harnesses an intriguing vibrancy that compliments the ongoing carnage.

TRUTH CORRODED have continued to craft consistently impactful material for many years now and have been criminally overlooked for far too long. Bloodlands is exactly the kind of statement they needed to grab everyone’s attention and make their presence felt. The musicianship is proficient without being too over indulgent and it hits like a crowbar to the jaw. This effort is another potential contender which deserves to be up there with the cream of the crop at the end of year.

Rating: 8/10
