EP REVIEW: Legacy – Titan Breed
You know you’re onto something special when your debut gig is within the hallowed walls of The Garage in Glasgow. This is precisely what Glasweigan quintet TITAN BREED managed to achieve. If that wasn’t enough they followed it up with a performance on the Hobgoblin New Blood Stage at Bloodstock Festival less than a year later. It is now time for the band to release their follow up to 2017’s debut EP Edge Of The World entitled Legacy.
The opener and title track Legacy commences with melodic tones which lead into punchy drum beats and sturdy riffing. The raspy bellows of frontman Johnny Malice instantly command the track. An alluring chorus line adeptly adds an extra dimension their offering. Destined To Fall begins to up the ante welcoming you with a high pitched scream and a pacier tempo. The toing and froing vocal shifts further express the diversity on offer. Towards the latter stages of the track a crushing breakdown section builds the intensity. In comparison to the tracks which have just elapsed The Key To Fear feels like someone slammed their foot on the accelerator as swift riffing and potent blast beats march to the forefront. Enticing vocal segments join forces with buoyant bass lines like a shot of adrenaline straight into your veins.
A Change Of Fate possesses a nostalgic MEGADETH vibe in the initial stages with tempting riff work and spoken word verses. The grittiness shines through as the track progresses with some boisterous heaviness making its presence felt. We Bring Destruction ensures that the energy which has been building throughout Legacy is sustained until the final moments. Emphatic drum fills, jabbing bass riffs and powerful vocal bursts leave an exclamation point.
Legacy felt like it took a little time to get itself comfortable and warmed up but when it hit its strides there is plenty on offer which will have listeners coming back for more. TITAN BREED exhibit a wide range of elements on this release which allow for an accessible sound that will grab attention and when introduced in a live setting will certainly pack a punch. It will be intriguing to see what the future holds for this promising outfit.
