Rïcïnn releases new music video for ‘Psamatäe’
RÏCÏNN has released a brand new music video!
The new music video, for the track Psamatä, is taken from the experimental French vocalist/composer’s latest album, Nereïd, which was released back in October.
The new music video was filmed by Aurélien Laidebeur and Brice Menou and stars the actor Phöën and was directed/edited by RÏCÏNN. Speaking about the song and its accompanying music video, she says, “Psamatheus was seduced by the Aequi, the king of the Myrmidons, who ambushed her on the beach. She tried to escape his grip by transforming into a seal but he refused to let go until she relented, giving birth to a son who was given the name of Phocos, The Seal. Psamatäe is a song about desire. The gaze of a beloved one can have an unbearable power. From a mud of frustration, fear, lack of recognition of the true “self”, a black, vulnerable creature emerges, for protection, to survive, to escape from a reality of lies, fleeing, so that the other finally sees. This is one of the darkest songs I have ever written. The song was arranged by the talented Antony Miranda, with his analogue sounds. It was an incredible experience to see it come to life, springing from old synths!”
“The idea for the video came rather naturally as I live by the sea, a natural element which inspires me a lot. The video was shot at night in Dieppe, Normandy, France. I wanted to visualise the story of this creature coming out of the sea, looming in the dark, consumed with desire and frustration, struggling to survive throughout the night. The choice of black and white imagery and steel elements like the bridge enhance the cold, dark, mysterious aspect of this monstrous creature; a creature that lies within us all, lingering in the depth of our souls.”
