ALBUM REVIEW: Accidental Days – Chase Tremaine
There are always days that no one wants to experience, and no one ever expects. American musician CHASE TREMAINE has dedicated his latest record to the time that flies when having fun, and drags when the skies are grey. These are the tales of Accidental Days.
Being someone who expresses himself through his one-man-band style, Tremaine takes on the challenge of combining mainstream pop with undercover alternative to bring something unique and personal to the table. From the opening track One Day, the use of instruments alongside his own voice bring this depth that he has only teased in records past. Since his 2020 debut Unfall, there has only been an improvement in Tremaine‘s compositional powers.
He shows off this newer and brighter twist of emo-rock in the latest single Tired Side of Content, one of the standout tracks within the release. It’s a song that highlights Tremaine‘s beliefs as he speaks about how his soul “finds rest” with the accompaniment of a catchy melody. Bringing musical life to one’s faith and spirituality does not have to be slow-paced or classically composed. Sometimes it needs some powerful guitar riffs. Sometimes it needs more vivid and modern-day imagery. Tremaine has taken to a path he’s comfortable with, both within his heart and with his technical mind threading the music together in tandem. That’s how one creates a brand.
Spirituality is a recurring topic that can be sensed in every track. From the beginning, there would be mentions of religious followings and how that plays a part in everything. Through love, pain, hope and loss; all through to closing track New Creation Gray. Discussing what was fought for his salvation, Tremaine keeps to the mellow emo/power-pop to tell this story. One of the high points of this particular song is the outro’s guitar solo – a riff that picks up where the Nashville songwriter slowed things down. Drifting into silence such as a branch along the river. This is where the world says not goodbye, but more, “Amen“.
Accidental Days is an album to listen and reflect upon. Whether a person of faith, or an assured atheist, this is an ideal listen – for the themes for some, and the catchy sounds and bittersweet melodies for others. However, everyone can come together to the knowledge that this is what old-fashioned emo has become and it’s a fascinating place to rise to. No praise needed, but surely gained.
