ALBUM REVIEW: As Blue As Indigo – Tigercub
Returning for the first time after five years out of music, trio TIGERCUB have made a triumphant return to form with their brand new album As Blue As Indigo. Following on from previous raucous releases like Repressed Semantics and Abstracts Figures In The Dark, to release a record that nearly touches on the non genre conforming greatness that these do would be a tough challenge to compete with. But with As Blue As Indigo, TIGERCUB are set to secure their place at the top echelon of the best British bands bringing out new music right now, as the record’s ten tracks take a deep dive into a colourful spectrum of songs that are simply beyond belief.
Half of the tracks that make up As Blue As Indigo explores this softer, subdued and more melancholic side to TIGERCUB‘s sound, before turning up the volume notches to burst out into something a little more bombastic, curating this false sense of security which is something that makes TIGERCUB‘s music surprising and thrilling. Opener and title track As Blue As Indigo, single Stop Beating On My Heart and closer In The Autumn Of My Years are testament to this well cleverly curated illusion, as these songs all start out with the audio appearance of entirely acoustic numbers, but by the time the second half of the songs roll around, the big building sounds come crashing down in a dramatic display of sonic contrast.
However, on the contrary there are some outright bombastic, raucous and noisy bangers on the album. Take tracks such as singles Sleepwalker’s fuzzy heavy riffs, the ROYAL BLOOD How Did We Get So Dark?-style introduction in Blue Midst In My Mind and Beauty with its real rusty guitars are all instant alt rock hits from the get go.
With As Blue As Indigo, TIGERCUB are pulling out all of the contrasting stops on this record. In a short space of ten tracks, the Brighton based band have the ability to go from the acoustic to the alt rock in the space of a few seconds or even just one song. Captivating, invigorating and exciting, TIGERCUB‘s brand new album As Blue As Indigo is attention grabbing for all the right reasons.
