ALBUM REVIEW: Dedication To Flesh – Spite
Californian deathcore outfit SPITE have been on an impressive upward trajectory since their arrival in 2016. With a few albums and a tonne of live shows under their belt it is little surprise that they have been added to the line-up for 2022’s iteration of the prestigious Never Say Die tour. The quintet are poised to drop their latest release entitled Dedication To Flesh on August 19th via Rise Records. Beware, this release has pretty sharp teeth!
Lord Of The Upside Down initially builds momentum slowly and methodically, introducing additional instruments of destruction as it progresses. Before you know it you are being hammered by bludgeoning riff work and gruesome vocal assaults. Caved In dials in that instilled aggression and hits you with a furious wave straight off the bat. Hefty hooks and unrelenting groove drive this track home like a nail right between your eyes. Proper One keeps the intensity flowing as frenetic drum sequences wreak havoc alongside vicious vocal lines laced with pure venom. Made To Please unleashes an explosive cocktail of barbaric beatdowns and monstrous musicianship that will certainly leave a lasting impression. The maniacal laughter which pops up only adds to the crazed nature of the track.
Some Things You Should Know… exudes an unnerving, ominous vibe that leads into another mammoth surge of brutality that refuses to offer any reprieve. Dedication To Flesh will also provide you with no pleasantries, continuing to delve deeper into downtuned, demonic territories. The Most Ugly treads a different stylistic path but is also littered with darkness and dread. Blackened, melodic slivers creep out of the cracks to add another layer to this destructive beast. Fear has only one motive: to repeatedly pound your skull until it is nothing but dust. Stomping riffs mercilessly trample all in their way.
The Son Of Dawn charges onwards as rampant rounds of blast beats grab the track by the throat. An enticing pacing and impressive lead work add an emphatic stamp. Sounds For The Descent provides a minimal and slightly uncomfortable opportunity to catch your breath and prepare yourself for what lies ahead. Hangman pierces your eardrums with scathing screaming combined with swift groove-laden blows that feel like a train that is about to come launching off its tracks. Crumble fully intends to witness your departure in a bodybag. The guttural ferocity expelled will curdle your blood.
SPITE look to have really found their niche with this release, confidently ploughing through a wealth of fierce tracks with little regard for your safety. Just how deathcore should be. Dedication To Flesh is dangerously addictive and is sure to grab a lot of attention. The decision to nudge the release day back was a clever choice and this effort has proved to be more than worth the wait.
