ALBUM REVIEW: Earth, Spit, Blood And Bones – Hawxx
It’s rare to see a band experience such a rapid upward trajectory in such a short space of time but as far as HAWXX are concerned the hype is completely justified. They’re here to shake the very foundations of the rock and metal scene with a collective voice that is uncompromising, outspoken and poised to take on the world. Their debut full-length is out now and is about to throw some additional fuel on this already raging inferno.
Death Makes Sisters Of Us All comes hurtling in with gnarly grooves and impassioned lyrical passages. The soaring melodies and powerful heaviness assist in amplifying the emotions bursting out of every seam. The Worst Thing possesses a snappy tempo and infectious rhythms. The chorus segment is equipped with an anthemic quality that will definitely be a crowd pleaser at future live shows. Reckless follows an emotive, introspective train of thought that is bolstered by technical flourishes and alluring leads. The distinct vulnerability in the vocal deliveries help the narrative hit home.
Embrace The Ugly opts for a darker, heftier sound. The crunchy hooks are particularly inviting, especially when combined with the energising drum sequences. Trust Your Rage leaves a lump in your throat with its candid, exposed expression. The dramatic, shifting flow provides quite a haunting backdrop. If Not Now Then When bursts into a sea of colour, immersing you in its captivating tones. The stark transitions in style throughout evoke a wealth of sensations and moods.
Filth keeps you guessing with its twisting and turning prose. The track’s eccentricity certainly works in its favour as it demands every ounce of your attention. Bite injects some intensity into proceedings. Sharp, impactful drum beats and swift riffing create a chaotic soundscape. The fierce vocal performance sends a tingle down your spine. Soulbreaking Machines sustains the enticing rush of adrenaline, combining light and dark textures to great effect. Fathertongue is as fascinating as it is haunting. The vocal layering in the initial stages is masterfully executed and emphatically sets the stage for the surge in instrumentation. The perfect track to close this vivid journey.
Earth, Spit, Blood And Bones is crammed to the brim with emotive sentiments that tackle many prominent topics via the medium of powerful, authentic compositions. HAWXX take unwavering pride in providing a safe space for the unjustly oppressed and ensuring their voices are heard, this release hammers that mentality home loud and clear. The level of variety comprised within is of exceptional quality and provides an emphatic imprint of their creative flair as musicians. This inspiring quartet have officially arrived and are just getting warmed up.
