ALBUM REVIEW: From The New World – Allt
Swedish progressive metal upstarts ALLT have already made impressive inroads into the global metal scene during their short tenure as a band. Having already toured with heavyweights BLEED FROM WITHIN and ANIMALS AS LEADERS with an upcoming tour with the red-hot IMMINENCE on the horizon, 2024 is looking to be a very fruitful period. Will their anticipated debut album entitled From The New World be the launching pad to greater opportunities?
A Flash of Light sets the scene with an almost cinematic sequence of intriguing dialogue. Remnant is packed full of intertwining atmospherics, bright melodies, and crunchy heaviness. This clever amalgamation offers up a flexible array of dynamics that interchange seamlessly. Aquila possesses a tense demeanour, bolstered by emphatic drum beats. Brutish growls and shimmering riff elements lead the charge. Memory of Light shifts into beatdown mode, hitting you with aggressive waves of downtuned ferocity.
Echoes opts for a more balanced approach, allowing emotive tones to seep into the soundscape. The Orphan Breed utilises a variety of electronica-infused chaos to construct a frantic arrangement which hits from all angles. Seething screams join forces with swarming riff sequences. Dissect Yourself is like a explosion of rage launched straight down your ear canals. Crushing drum work will leave your brain rattling around your skull.
Emanate possesses an alluring industrial-tinged backbone and a ridiculously addictive chorus section. If you want to ignite a crowd this is exactly the kind of track you want in your arsenal. Ephemeral throws some quirky piano pieces into the mix which prove to be particularly effective. It doesn’t take long for the pace to be significantly amplified. Cycles chooses a more ponderous yet curious tempo. Sharp shocks of energy shake the foundations.
From The New World is a bit of a mixed bag. ALLT clearly have plenty of tools in their possession to make an impact but some tracks tend to glide by without really striking a chord or leaving a lasting impression. This effort definitely gains some hefty momentum towards the latter stages and provides particular intrigue into what shape their future material could resemble. It wouldn’t be surprising to see some of these instalments infiltrating many a playlist.
