ALBUM REVIEW: Liminality – Future Static
One of metalcore’s most electrifying breakthrough acts, FUTURE STATIC, are set to drop their highly anticipated debut album this Friday. Due for release via Wild Thing Records, Liminality curates 12 scorching tracks that are set to blow minds.
Fronted by Amariah Cook, FUTURE STATICĀ use the fusion of clean vocals that raise the hairs on your arms and guttural screams to take you on an intoxicating journey. It is genre-bending excellence, unifying their more alternative rock sounds with traditional metalcore elements. Providing a similar vocal soundscape to that of SPIRITBOX, the tandem of Cook and Kira Neil is outstanding. Drawing their listeners in with ease, their melodic voices take you on every emotional twist and turn of each track, showcasing their impressive range and ability to portray the lyrical narrative of each song.
Singles Venenosa and Waves have both already received a stream of positive attention through their earlier releases. Filled with phenomenal hooks and a hefty performance from both the drumming and guitars, it is easy to see why both tracks have been so publicly acclaimed. This ability to engage their listeners and command their attention is not something to be ignored, not to mention that they also successfully deliver an incredibly tasty breakdown in Waves, which is sure to leave you stunned and have the track left on repeat.
Created during a time of uncertainty, the pandemic provided a space for Liminality to reach its full potential. A collaboration between all members, FUTURE STATIC‘s use of aggressive riffs, talented lead guitar moments and great musicality showcases their dedication to their art. It is obvious that the band have put their whole heart into this album’s creation. This passion is even clearer through insane standout tracks like Roach Queen. The three-minute piece is bold, mixing aggressively heavy screams with impressively smooth and clean moments. There are a few hints of electronic sounds hidden within, creating an infectious track that is sure to be replayed.
Other key pieces like The Hourglass seem to have a slightly slower but still energetic tempo. This ability to fuse genres is key here, producing an outstanding final outcome that is sure to be revered after final listening. FUTURE STATIC‘s prowess for creating a wholly satisfying listening experience is vast, and to say they will be on the rise after this first full-length release is an understatement.
Overall, Liminality is not just an album but a showcase, pushing the band’s very best to the forefront. And while the record does not use all of the exact stereotypical components of standard metalcore albums, FUTURE STATIC have pushed themselves in a exhilarating direction, marking themselves out as ones to watch. This ability to add something to the genre is exceptional, and as such the band have created an album that is sure to be a success and have its listeners hooked from the very first listen.
