ALBUM REVIEW: Limitless – Any Given Day
Melodic metalcore quintet, ANY GIVEN DAY, are back with their latest album Limitless. The German group pride themselves on their blend of catchy melodies with gnarly brutalness that will leave your jaw dropped, with the need to both dance and sing while headbanging at the same time. If such a thing is possible? The album title itself reflects their aim of wanting to explore themes of boundless potential and creativity, and, given what we have in front of us, it’s fair to say that they’ve succeeded.
Opening with Get That Done, we hear guitar that slowly builds before the full band kicks off into a solid metalcore track complete with classic riffs and gnarly vocals, that’s then nicely juxtaposed with a clean production and vocals. And that breakdown in the bridge…damn. What a way to open a record.
ANY GIVEN DAY then adds variety when moving into Unbreakable that opens with melodic guitar and anthemic vocals that has a powerful hue. But that doesn’t last long before we are then plunged into the world of fast metal. Yet they don’t stray too far away from the original tone when they pair gnarly vocals with anthemic chants which pairs together nicely.
Throughout the album, not once does ANY GIVEN DAY slow down with track after track after track of melodic metalcore, gnarly breakdowns and strong vocals. Albeit there are some small moments where things feel a little try hard, like they were aiming to be edgy, but it comes across as forced. We’re looking at you My Way and Come Whatever May, although we can mostly forgive the latter for its interesting inclusion of blues rock.
Yet even then that’s just us being nitpicky. Every other track on the record is just well put together with stand out moments being; Apocalypse, that just pure brutal metal that has you headbanging and a breakdown that will make you sit there going, “Oooohhh”with a hand over your mouth in shock; the title track with it’s incorporation of electronic rock; and concluding song Shadow Walker that brings in elements of industrial rock and is just a brilliant choice to close the album off on.
Outside of the occasional moments of being a little try hard, every other part completely makes up for it. Limitless is album for you if you want non-stop breakdowns, anthemic choruses and metal riffs that will make you headbang the night away.
