ALBUM REVIEW: Prevail II – Kobra And The Lotus
It’s no secret that Canadian hard rock outfit KOBRA AND THE LOTUS have been an ever-growing presence within the hearts and minds of the rock and metal community. Their charismatic presence, powerful tunes and their passion for what they do are crucial pieces of evidence as to why they have been a regular hot topic. Their fifth studio album Prevail II will only uphold this reputation that Kobra Paige and her motley crew have rightly earned for themselves.
The story of KOBRA AND THE LOTUS begins in the year 2009 in Calgary, Canada. KOBRA AND THE LOTUS gained immediate attention from Canadian and the US with their debut album Out Of The Pit. Since their formation; their sound has gone through great developments, they have released a great discography and have shared the stage with some household names in hard rock, KISS and DEF LEPPARD to name a few.
You know when albums kick off with a song that gets the record going? Losing My Humanity goes in full force and takes no prisoners. The thunderous drums, guitars and prevailing vocal work from Kobra herself ensure that you stop whatever you are doing and take the time to listen to this album. The rest of Prevail II contains some well carved hard rock gems that are sure to become classics not just amongst existing fans but amongst fans of the genre itself.
Their sweeping melody My Immortal is the track to listen to when you need to escape some of those harsh realities. This new empowering classic will help forget those skeletons in the closet. This song’s stunning melody and breath-taking lyrics, “just as fierce as the thunder, my whispers roared I’m free”, will allow you to escape even after you listened to it as the melody will float in the mindset hours or days later. The heavier sounds of Fallen Empire indicates the half way point on the record and what a great track it is too. The song contains everything a great hard rock song should contain; from the finger blistering guitar work to the vocal power from Kobra Paige herself, this track is a true belter. The touch from the soprano sounding vocals is the cherry on top.
Modern Day Hero would be the marching anthem that fans will look forward to hearing at live shows. Its upbeat tempo provides the perfect beat to headbang to and punch the air to. This track is a strong one; it provides the listener with power and inspiration to carry on. We all need a Modern Day Hero these days so this track could not come about sooner.
Prevail II ends beautifully with the striking ballad White Water, their own take on a FLEETWOOD MAC classic, The Chain, and a gorgeous acoustic rendition of their single Let Me Love You. After these tracks play their last notes, it only leaves you wanting more. Prevail II is a truly fantastic record that fans will not be disappointed with and one that will surely switch more people onto KOBRA AND THE LOTUS.
