ALBUM REVIEW: Prophetic Blasphemy – Hanging The Nihilist
The modern era of deathcore continues to evolve into a more vicious animal than ever before and Danish outfit HANGING THE NIHILIST are poised to throw down the gauntlet with their debut full length release entitled Prophetic Blasphemy which is available now via Prime Collective. What can this talented bunch bring to the table?
Prelude To Prophecy instantly sets an unnerving atmosphere with ominous orchestration and a dramatic delivery that slots straight into the crushing blast beats and guttural onslaught of Enter The Procession. The pace quickens as a string of swift riffs start to cause some chaos. The demonic soundscape really grabs a firm hold towards the latter stages. Inevitable Dissent ramps up the insanity as rapid fire drum beats and ferocious screams send a shockwave through your body. Slam-infused aggression also offers up its own brand of devastation.
The Bloodwell Scriptorium introduces some chilling piano keys which blend into the powerful riff work as part of the maniacal symphony that is unfolding. The twisting and turning pacing masterfully lures you in. The addition of Jack Fahlberg‘s vocal prowess to Labour Of The Sacred Bodies proves to be a masterstroke. Throw in an impressive solo run and additional skull fracturing intensity and you’ve got one hell of an explosive track on your hands. The Empress’s Wager keeps the adrenaline flowing in full force with further bursts of impeccable riffs and polished drumming.
Their Desired Ascension delves into the darkest depths, launching headfirst into waves of searing screams and bludgeoning instrumentation. Traversing through a range of tempo’s and moods this track really keeps you on your toes. The snappy hooks near the midway point are devilishly addictive. Defilement Ensued… possesses a haunting yet alluring charm, not quite providing you with a moment to catch your breath but it certainly sounds like the precursor to the arrival of something much more sinister. …To The Sound Of Madness lives up to the expectation and it runs rampant with relentless rounds of frantic riffing and seismic vocal assaults with the power to level skyscrapers. Arguably saving the best track until last Hunted Through Hell harbours an infectious rhythm, stomping mercilessly over anything in its radius. It is rare that an album has its most formidable moments during its closing stages but this will certainly leave a lasting impression on the listener.
Prophetic Blasphemy takes a little while to settle in and hit its optimum level but when it does it becomes an unstoppable force of nature. Deathcore is a genre that can struggle to hold your focus for a full-length release but HANGING THE NIHILIST have developed the correct formula to ensure you’re continually excited with each passing track. A thoroughly enjoyable debut!
