ALBUM REVIEW: Remedy – GOZU

Boston quartet GOZU are back after a five-year wait with their newest album Remedy. The band themselves take influence from a variety of styles and genres including grunge, psychedelia and 70s rock, and in their own words they wanted to create a “Very heavy groove-oriented album with singalong choruses. We also wanted sonically to hit you in the chest, like a three-combination, left-right-left.” A strong statement like that sets some high expectations, but are they met?

Opening track Tom Cruise Control starts with riffs that heavily bring to mind the sound of a motorcycle starting up and leave the listener wondering if this is to be a homage to the action film star himself. Suddenly we are greeted by loud, gruff vocals with a full band that screams heavy metal influence, before gradually transitioning into something more gnarly. Just as we get over the shock and start to unintentionally head bang, we are then met with a chorus of choir harmonies that add an angelic vibe and allows the track to shift into melodic metal. It’s a hell of an introduction to this record. Moving onto CLDZ, a song that is nearly seven minutes long, the opening consists of fast-paced guitar riffs and once again has you head banging unintentionally, yet once again the track shifts into a pleasant vibe that has a calming effect. It’s not something you’d expect from a metal focused track, but it works.

And that’s an ongoing theme with this album, no two tracks sound the same and no song stays in one singular style, and it’s simply brilliant. To give some examples, Rambo 2 starts out with gnarly guitar riffs but then shifts into 80s metal mixed with some electronic breakdowns; and Ben Gazzara Loves No One once again starts out in a harsh tone that has you feeling the same frustration conveyed in the lyrics yet it then shifts into classic rock, with some comparison to MÖTLEY CRÜE, with some elements of industrial rock and nu-metal introduced towards end. There’s also the concluding track The Handler, which in all honesty drags after a while. It goes in different directions where in one moment we can hear some rather unsettling, creepy drones before transitioning into industrial rock, which then soon changes into melodic metal.

Ultimately though, this album has a little bit of everything. Granted, some songs could be slightly shorter, but it’s gnarly guitar and vocals galore that just oozes with confidence and coolness. Remedy was certainly worth the wait.

Rating: 8/10

    Hi,

John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
Romans 5:6 “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.”
God sent His only begotten Son, the holy perfect Jesus Christ many years ago. Christ had come to earth, born in man flesh, born of the virgin Mary and by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, God and Jesus Christ are one.
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Jesus Christ came to earth many years ago, who did many miracles and healings and came to bring restoration. Love, love was the reason why Christ Jesus came and He suffered and died on the cross and He had made the sacrifice to save. Receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and receive eternal life. Jesus Christ is the life. Jesus Christ came back to life and resurrected on the third day and then later on had ascended to Heaven, having victory over death. There is victory through believing and trusting in Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Quote by Jesus Christ found at John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
1 John 4:2 “Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:”
