Bodysnatcher: Redefining Deathcore
BODYSNATCHER have been grabbing a lot of well earned attention in recent years with their explosive blend of death metal, beatdown and hardcore. The Floridian outfit are poised to release the long awaited follow-up to 2020’s This Heavy Void entitled Bleed-Abide and are confident it will exceed expectations.
“It’s definitely more mature and better constructed than anything we’ve done before and I feel like everything as a whole just sounds better,” declares drummer Chris Whited. “It’s better produced and we’re really pleased with how it turned out.”
“More slams, more breakdowns!” Adds frontman Kyle Medina. “It’s definitely a bit more refined than our previous releases. A lot more personal too.”
BODYSNATCHER pride themselves on constructing lyrical content which their listeners can relate to, with a view to creating a more genuine and authentic sound. An aspect which each member is eager to pitch in with. “We’ve all always pitched ideas with regards to lyrics but never to the extent that we do now and have for this release,” discusses Kyle. “We tackle a lot of different subjects like the loss of a loved one or family member, the fear of death, taking the good out of bad things that have happened in your life and realising that they can be turned into a positive and allows for personal growth.”
“Because we write about such personal subjects I feel like it gives everyone the opportunity to get something off their chest,” adds Chris. “Obviously Kyle is singing those parts that maybe myself and the other members co-wrote but I feel it makes us more relatable and helps us to reach out to people in the same sense. We wanted the lyrical content to be relatable and we want to sing about real life experiences so it means more to us and we feel like it will mean more to the consumer as well. I hope people pay attention to the way that the record is written because we really tried to portray what in our opinion, the deathcore genre should be which to me should be parts of death metal, mixed with actual hardcore, and that’s where the lyrical content really comes in. We don’t sing about fictional characters or anything like that.”
The lack of touring has been a significant financial burden for many bands who depend on such endeavours as a reliable source of income and an opportunity to sell merch while out on the road. BODYSNATCHER have been fortunate to get back out into the world again, recently completing a UK tour in support of the mighty INGESTED. They also have big plans ahead for the remainder of 2022 as the world begins to open up once more.
“This industry was the first one to stop and the last one to get going again so it really took the hardest hit. We’ve done a few tours with INGESTED over here in the States so it was cool to be over that side of the world this time round and experience something new. I’m a big fan of all the bands on that tour too so that was even better. We played Wired For Destruction before the track dropped so it was cool to open with a song that nobody had ever hard before and it went over really well which was sick.”
“We were stoked to get Will Ramos from LORNA SHORE involved in the video for that track,” adds Kyle. “We love the guys from LORNA SHORE, they’re like our favourite bunch of people to tour with and we have such a strong personal connection with those guys. Eric Dicarlo, the guy who created the video for Wired For Destruction was like ‘hey, I’ve got an idea for a video. Do you mind if we get Will to be the actor?’ And we thought it was an awesome idea. LORNA SHORE have been working so hard for so long and I’m very happy those guys are getting the recognition they deserve. We’re going to be heading out on a tour with DYING FETUS, CHELSEA GRIN, UNDEATH and FROZEN SOUL. We really hope that COVID just disappears as it would really suck if something threw a wrench in it. Having two years off has just been weird. Money isn’t everything but having a place to live rocks!”
