Celtic Frost bassist Martin Ain dead at 50

Distorted Sound is saddened to report the passing of iconic bassist Martin Ain.

The iconic bassist, best known for his work in HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST, has passed away at age 50 on October 21st after suffering a heart attack. His death was confirmed by close friend Jan Graber, who told Switzerland’s 20 Minuten that Martin Ain “suddenly collapsed when he switched to a different tram.”

Linking up with Thomas Gabriel Fischer (aka Tom G Warrior) the duo have crafted a impeccable legacy through the work of HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST; both bands being cited as major influences for countless bands today. In a tribute to Martin Ain, Fischer says on his blog, “I am deeply affected by Martin Eric Ain‘s passing. Our relationship was very complex and definitely not free of conflicts, but Martin’s life and mine were very closely intertwined, since we first met in 1982. My life will be painfully incomplete without his existence.”
