envy announce new album ‘Eunoia’
ENVY have announced a new album!
Titled Eunoia, the upcoming album from the Japanese post-hardcore band is the follow-up to 2020’s The Fallen Crimson, and is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Pelagic Records.
Consisting only of songs that the band can and will play on stage, the album was written around the idea of searching for hope and inspiration from day to day life whilst feeling powerless against the weight of the world. As such, the band expected their conscious use of minor keys and Tetsuya Fukagawa’s candid, diary-like lyrics to produce a despairing and remorseful record.
Alongside the announcement of the new album, the band have released a new song lifted from the upcoming album; Beyond The Raindrops.
Speaking about the new song, guitarist Nobukata Kawai says, “this is one of the first songs we wrote for the album. I found a melodic, down-tuned riff and everything started from there. Even with a demo version recorded, ‘Beyond the Raindrops’ almost didn’t make the album. I found the demo again during the last few days of recording preparations and sent it to Tetsu to see what he thought. If I hadn’t listened to the demo that day, I don’t think this song would’ve been recorded!”
Vocalist Tetsuya Fukagawa adds, “this song was a new challenge for me. Nobu sent the demo over at the last minute so I ended up writing the lyrics with a focus on sounds that fit the melody, rather than the meaning of the words. I think it ultimately gives the song something raw and honest that we’ve never explored as a band before.”
