EP REVIEW: Blessed With Malevolence – The Hate Project
Swedish deathcore bruisers THE HATE PROJECT have been firmly building their stock profile, catching the eye of Seek And Strike Records in the process. Their new EP and follow up to 2021’s Seize The Obscurity entitled Blessed With Malevolence has now surfaced. How will this effort stack up against their previous releases?
Suffer isn’t your bog standard, tension building intro. It dives straight into the nitty gritty with thumping riffs and a crushing vocal burst setting the scene for the vicious Blessed With Malevolence. From frantic drum beats to plentiful violent stomps with a barbaric breakdown segment thrown in for good measure, this proves to be quite the welcoming party. Needle Fanatic sustains the eruption of carnage with seismic waves of aggression. The downtuned, ferocious riffing continuously slams you upside the head like a heavyweight jab.
Confessions Of A Murderer surges forth with rapid fire drum sequences that join forces with grisly vocal expulsions. Chilling atmospherics lurk around your periphery, instilling a sensation of uncomfortability into proceedings. Death’s Deal delves deep into a sea of ruthless grooves that refuse to subside, if anything they only become amplified in intensity gaining a level of insurmountable momentum as you are helpless to escape its clutches.
If you like your metal laced with a healthy dose of brutality then THE HATE PROJECT might be right up your street. Whilst the output is polished and laser focused Blessed With Malevolence does feel a bit like a one trick pony. There isn’t a great deal of variety to distinguish each song from its counterparts and to some that may be completely satisfactory. If being perpetually battered isn’t your bag this may begin to lose its charm by the time the end approaches.
Rating: 7/10
