EP REVIEW: Dogmatic Convictions Of Human Decrepitude – Slit Your Gods
Dogmatic Convictions Of Human Decrepitude is the debut release from Spanish death metallers SLIT YOUR GODS. A three song EP that is only 13 minutes long it does exactly what it does on the tin, comes in, beats you up, steals your lunch money and then ending – leaving behind a lasting impression. This EP feels legitimately dangerous, which is something that has been missing from the world of death metal for a while, but you can hear the pure venom in vocalist Jordi’s voice, as he growls through this EP.
This release takes aim at religion, and even emulates some aspects of Satanism, opening with a spoken word piece on Cult of Supreme Blasphemy that quickly kicks in to some of the fastest double-kick this year. SLIT YOUR GODS do exactly what their names says – they set out to take down religion, and they certainly do so. Painting evil humans who cling to religion as hypocritical, and demonstrating how organised religion has been the basis and justification for so many immoral acts in the past.
Dogmatic Convictions Of Human Decrepitude doesn’t do anything new in the world of death metal, and it certainly isn’t long enough to leave a lasting imprint, however what it does do is give a taster of what this band could become. Even within these 13 minutes it is clear that this five-piece are masters of their craft, and are able to take on a subject that many death metal bands have attempted before without coming off as ‘angsty’ or ‘edgy.’ There is certainly much more coming for SLIT YOUR GODS, and if they can keep up a pace as blistering as this EP then it will definitely be something to look forward to.
