EP REVIEW: El Limbo De Los Callados – En La Niebla

Emerging out of the fast growing and thriving Argentinian stoner scene that has spawned the likes of FULANNO, THE CROOKED WHISPERS, MEPHISTOFELES and SERPENT COBRA, the trio that make up EN LA NIEBLA add their swaggering, bluesy, sludgy doom to the mix. The band’s debut release, El Limbo De Los Callados is a half-hour trudge through darkness, hazes of smoke and trippy, psychedelic blues licks and riffs. 

Hailing from Río Segundo, Córdoba, EN LA NIEBLA’s hometown is at the geographical centre of the vast country of Argentina. This in itself feels charged with a strange energy that the band have imbued into their music, with a gravitational heaviness that could pull everyone into the heart of the central Argentinian abyss that they have created. El Limbo De Los Callados is an ominous title, hinting at wandering, silent nomads in cloaks, their demonic eyes shining from under their hood’s edge, with sinister intent. The EP is completely sung in Spanish, which adds an air of mystery to the non-native speaker, imbuing it with an esoteric ritualism that makes your soul succumb to the music’s eerie magic. 

The scene is set with the ominous and unnerving intro to El Sendero Del Druida, as a strange clip sounds as if the speaker is initiating a ritual. This is a vibe that continues throughout the EP, with Evocando El Ritual and Cabras Negras sounding like hazy summoning songs to bring the demons out of their drug addled slumber. Las Brujas is a trippy track that ventures into more clouded, ritualistic psychedelia that sends your head slowly spinning into the shadows. Title track El Limbo De Los Callados closes the EP with a bombastic flourish. 

EN LA NIEBLA have certainly announced themselves to the world with this EP, emerging from the depths of Argentina to deliver some crushing, hazy doom that will send you spiralling into a hypnotic trance to dance with the demons.
