EP REVIEW: Feel Nothing – We Struck Gold
Bristol hardcore collective WE STRUCK GOLD are back with a vengeance. The dynamic three-piece have just unleashed their new EP Feel Nothing and boy, does it bang. Comprised of eight mind-blowing tracks, you can expect powerful vocals that stick in the brain, unforgettable riffs and melodies that will have you going back to listen over and over again.
Now available on all major streaming platforms Feel Nothing is nothing short of a slick creation. It features well-received singles I’ll Find More Peaceful Days and done., as well as a collection of unheard songs for fans. Continuing on from their previous release, To Conquer A Fear//All Life Is Divine, Feel Nothing contains themes and narratives surrounding positive mental health, with the group releasing the material via Dreambound.
Frontman Omar Al-Hinai’s vocals are breathtaking, as his voice eases between his gut-curling screams and gritty yet angelic melodies. It is this ability to provide such a varied yet powerful performance that when combined with the instrumentals, showcases that the group is continuing to go from strength-to-strength. Carrying the weight of the emotions from each word, Al-Hinai delivers the lyrics with passion to the listener, providing a sound session that is not only enjoyable but also reminiscent of bands such as WHILE SHE SLEEPS and ARCHITECTS.
Tracks such as Dark Days create an original sound, showcasing the band’s immense technical skills. These monumental displays of talent are impressive, and provide the perfect accompaniment for the rawness of Al-Hinai’s voice. Moments such as the introduction track also demonstrate them, providing a nice calm before the storm, a sweet spot to be enjoyed. Drawing in most attention is the final song Silhouette. The three-minute long track manages to transcend the EP, giving fans a listening experience that is memorable and entertaining. Its overall sound ebbs and flows, bringing its listeners on a journey as it takes its time to let you drink it all in.
This isn’t to say the EP is perfect however. Some moments come across a little too similar, and while clear influence from well-known bands is apparent through the collective sound of WE STRUCK GOLD, it is sometimes to their downfall. A few moments within the EP can appear repetitive, although it is still enjoyable and nothing to deter from the overall soundscape.
Feel Nothing is a hefty encounter, one that provides smooth vocals that touch on difficult experiences and exceptional instrumental skills. If you’re looking for quality hardcore metal, then WE STRUCK GOLD should be added to your playlist immediately. You won’t be disappointed.
