EP REVIEW: Feel The Push – All Ears Avow
After a successful string of EPs and single releases, Swindon group ALL EARS AVOW have finally wowed the crowd with their latest nine-track, 31-minute EP. Feel The Push has been the band’s priority project since 2021. Releasing singles such as L.O.V.E., Hero and opening track Technophobia, their focus and hard work has produced a record of purely blended pop-rock power. They have hit the road since live music made its return post-lockdown and teased their newly perfected sound, and the reactions and feedback speaks volumes. Everyone is feeling the push.
This lengthy EP sees the band switch from their usual pop-rock sound to introduce more electronic elements and indie influences for a concoction of sounds from every corner of the music world that work together from track to track. Take the first single released, Be That Nothing. Despite being placed in the penultimate spot within Feel The Push, it still holds the ability to captivate the listener and keep them hooked. It’s a talent to behold within music; especially when it comes to closing tracks, and even more so within a tracklist that varies from minute to minute.
Compared to the opening of Technophobia, it shows that even if the band are exploring more mainstream and dance-worthy avenues, they can stick to what they’ve known and loved as well. No compromise. Technophobia is a transitional track on the record; it leads fans into the strong, catchy, definitely unique style that ALL EARS AVOW have found their feet within. Now they are standing confidently, playing the songs they want to play and playing them oh so well – both on record and on the stage.
Technophobia is also a track that best highlights frontwoman Claire Sutton‘s vocals. Simply put, Sutton‘s voice works elegantly alongside the louder and heavier instruments accompanying her and brings the pop back into the equation. She brings the anthemic action through softly sung words and a higher-end range. It takes a wonderful woman to bring strength in softness. Here she is.
The EP concludes with its title track, which brings it to an end that’s similar to how it began. An ear-catching intro, a fascinating build-up within verses, and a full melodic thunderstorm as the chorus commences. Feel The Push appropriately acts as one of the catchiest tracks. It brings a beautiful end to the epic; bigger and better than anyone could have expected, and call that key change a happy surprise. Key changes can be a cheap gimmick, but not to ALL EARS AVOW.
For ALL EARS AVOW‘s most fulsome release yet, there is no better way it could’ve gone. There are ups and downs, jumping chords and swaying melodies, but it is all joy in the end. After years of work, writing, playing and performing, this isn’t the last trick up their collective sleeve. Get ready to Feel The Push.
