EP REVIEW: Frenzee – Frenzee
Here we have the self-titled debut EP from Australian born but Greek raised FRENZEE. Self-described as a “punk n roll” band, the trio made-up of siblings take inspiration from a range of artists that their parents would play when they were growing up, including but not limited to AC/DC, NIRVANA, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, THE PRODIGY, and GREEN DAY. A wonderful selection may we say, and it sure translates into FRENZEE’s music.
Kicking things off with Abort Mission, no time is wasted as we are immediately bombarded with punchy, loud instruments and vocals to match. It immediately takes you back to the early days of GREEN DAY, but it’s also a track that you can imagine being placed perfectly on the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. It’s fun, bouncy, and chaotic. And things don’t slow down either with Fire In My Gut which does take on a bit more grunge-rock style instrumental wise, but the punchy vocals remain, complete with a chorus that only makes you want to headbang along.
This high energy that we are introduced to never stops once. The vocals are loud and confident, the instruments are well put together in a polished yet kickass way, and every minute spent listening to this EP just makes you want more. Highlights include Backstreets that features vocals switching between distorted and intriguing to the loud and angry style we’ve become familiar with, complete with breakdowns that make you want to jump into the nearest mosh-pit; Frenzy (very accurate title) – a song that experiments with both rock ‘n’ roll and punk and one that you can already picture being played at a show in an underground venue with everyone going insane; and Things I Hear which is an explosive track that allows the EP to finish on a bang and just makes you want to get up and dance.
Fun and bouncy, that’s the EP summed up in three words. This is an EP filled with angsty lyrics and vocals to match, in fact the vocalist sounds so confident throughout, we can’t wait to see this performed live. FRENZEE are a perfect fit for the punk scene, you already know that their shows are going to be insane as pure carnage ensues. We’re incredibly excited to hear more from them and think that they will soon become a staple in the rock community. You’d be insane not to check them out, we can only see big things coming their way in the next few years, or maybe, in the next few months.
Rating: 9/10
