EP REVIEW: From Nothing To Nowhere – Aasar
Italy is usually regarded for its picturesque scenery and delicious food but as the years have progressed the country has also amassed a collection of incredibly talented musicians. You only need to cast your mind towards the likes of FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE and HOUR OF PENANCE to confirm the wealth of skills the European powerhouse has to offer. Hoping to carve their own place in the spotlight are promising newcomers AASAR who have just dropped their debut EP From Nothing To Nowhere via Seek & Strike Records. Will this be the start of a long and fruitful career?
Rise Of The Dark Ether promptly instils an ominous, tense atmosphere that ushers in the aggressive instrumentation of From Nothing To Nowhere. Pummelling drum beats and swift riff sequences are like being presented with a brick to the jaw. There is a lot to take in as you are engulfed in waves of intricate yet ferocious layering. Wasteland continues the assault with vicious vocal bursts and haunting industrial elements. The hammering drum work feels like a pneumatic drill trying to bore a hole through your eye sockets. The soundscape, impressively, is as cohesive as it is relentless.
Fall Into Oblivion refuses to take its foot off the accelerator, hitting you from all angles with destructive grooves and plentiful melodies in equal measure. Court Of The Unknown eerily creeps into view, the band sequentially weaving their maniacal web before finding the perfect time to strike. Valerio Quirini from fellow Italian bruisers SHARKS IN YOUR MOUTH lends his insane shredding abilities to further amplify the intensity. Defying Necrosis gears up for one final onslaught on your senses. From crushing blast beats to rapid riff segments this track ensures this release departs on an adrenaline-fuelled, impactful note.
To hit the ground running with your debut release can prove quite the obstacle but AASAR have done just that, showing their short time as a collective has been spent meticulously crafting their sound to form an explosion of sonic brutality. They have firmly kicked the door of opportunity clean off its hinges and it will be interesting to see if they can capitalise on it.
