EP REVIEW: Fury – Face Yourself

Continuing their partnership with producer Joey Sturgis, self-proclaimed transatlantic deathcore sextet FACE YOURSELF are back with their second EP of the year, and fifth EP overall, aptly named Fury, following the successful release of Martyr early this year.

Fury wastes no time getting to the meat of the EP with opening track Wet Dreams exploding a slew of blast beats from drummer Eric DiCarlo as front-woman Yasmine Liverneaux’s vocals are feral beyond belief. Throughout the entire five song EP, she takes her voice and twists it until it’s unrecognisable ear aching madness. Without any hesitation she switches between her high screams and bone crumbling low growls as guitarists Thomas Cardone, Corey Doremus and Dave Ricco combine thunderous chugs with melodic riffs to really kick you when you least expect it, especially with bassist Kyle Muenzner and Doremus providing backing screams across the EP, their vocal combo adds an undeniable punch to the gut.

Second single Fractures, features CRYSTAL LAKE vocalist John Centorrino cementing his vocal ability alongside Liverneaux with an outstanding appearance before the song ends leaving you longing for more from this pairing. Carousel Of Violence and Catacombs are pure unfiltered rage from the start of both songs with the technical side of the band shining through with DiCarlo’s machine gun kicks forcing the rest of the band to keep up as the symphonic background score makes the song sound like you’re taking the path through the nine circles of hell with demonic vocals aplenty.

Clocking in at just under 18-minutes, FACE YOURSELF have not only shown themselves to be a formidable force in the underground deathcore scene, as they only formed back in 2023 and have four EPs to their name along with countless tours of the US with bands like CRYSTAL LAKE and VCTMS, but they’ve proved themselves to be one of the hardest workers in metal. Since their inception they’ve done nothing but record and tour, and with Fury, they’ve opened themselves to a world of opportunities. But one thing remains, with all this hard work and the EPs being as bold as they are, when they eventually sit down for a full studio album, they’ll take the deathcore scene by storm.
