EP REVIEW: Moshemian Thrashody – Insanity Alert
Austrian thrashers INSANITY ALERT have hit the ground running since their arrival on the scene, having played some of the biggest festivals the world of rock and metal has to offer. 2019’s 666-Pack was ravenously digested by their flocks of fans and upcoming EP Moshemian Thrashody which is due for release on May 17th via Season Of Mist will undoubtedly be met with the same vigour.
Welcome To The Moshpit injects the GUNS ‘N ROSES classic with a bundle of adrenaline, haste and inclusivity, most likely ruining the original for any listeners. Beer In The Park brings the humour, transforming the IRON MAIDEN anthem into a comedic frolic which has no right to fit as well as it does. The hilarious lyrics are going to be stuck in your head for many years to come.
Beerless Fiesta drags GEORGE MICHAEL along for the ride, pouring frenzied thrash riffs down the track’s throat whilst shouting “CHUG!” at regular intervals. The aggressive vocal tones and pulsing drum beats also allow for a unique spin on the timeless original. Many would begrudge someone attempting to construct a parody of QUEEN but Moshemian Thrashody is energetic, lighthearted fun and if you fired this up at a club night it would take no time at all to have everyone dancing along.
Parody tracks tread that dangerous line between genius and being utterly cringeworthy but INSANITY ALERT have cleverly navigated those potential pitfalls. They may not go as viral as the iconic ‘Boat Rudder Strange Mountain’ but this effort will definitely go down a storm at social gatherings. When all we see around us are reports of war, poverty and political debates, Moshemian Thrashody is a welcome pocket of joy.
Rating: 8/10
