EP REVIEW: Nocturnal Creation – Salem Trials
The world of deathcore is really thriving at the moment with an influx of newcomers poised to stake their claim in the hotly contested division. The next contender to lace up their gloves is Ontario’s SALEM TRIALS who have just dropped their latest powder keg entitled Nocturnal Creation via Seek & Strike. What do they have in store for us this time?
Immolation burrows deep into the caverns of the underworld with gruesome vocal expulsions and intricate explosions of riffing. The track constantly shifts into different tempos throughout, keeping you on your toes, particularly the skull crushing breakdown towards the latter stages. Never Ending sustains the unrelenting fury, coming surging out of the gates with a gust of technicality. The monstrously hefty hooks will test the structural integrity of your ear drums.
Cenotaph introduces some devilish grooves into the mix, blood curdling screams assist in amplifying the bleak, gloomy soundscape. Nocturnal Creation combines a pummelling intensity with flourishes of dynamic flair to devastating effect. The ebbing and flowing pacing ensures you are gripped right until the very end.
The only downside about Nocturnal Creation is that it leaves you painstakingly grasping for more. Each track is a powerhouse in its own right and that is a testament to the abundance of creativity SALEM TRIALS possess. If not handled with care and finesse, deathcore can become stale very quickly but this is certainly not the case with these talented Canadians at the helm. The anticipation is already simmering for future works.
