EP REVIEW: ‘Til The Anarchy’s Restored – Flogging Molly

Fresh off the release of their seventh album Anthem, Celtic punks FLOGGING MOLLY have decided to throw out a quick little treat for fans just in time for St Patrick’s day: brand new single and EP ‘Til The Anarchy’s Restored. Along with a brand-new track, we are also treated to two live renditions of their classic tracks Drunken Lullabies and What’s Left Of The Flag that were recorded in one take during their Anthem sessions. It’s a short but sweet release that will leave you smiling and feeling warm inside.

As the EP starts off with the title track, we are greeted with acoustic guitars that are then joined by the powerful vocals of frontman Dave King. It’s enough to enchant you with how incredible the vocals sound and with the powerful meaning behind the words sang that you just feel with your whole being. Other instruments join in as the music swells and before you know it you feel like you’re sat at a campfire enjoying a singalong.

It’s a similar affair when it comes to Drunken Lullabies and What’s Left Of The Flag. You’d be forgiven if you hadn’t realised that this was a live performance as everything is so well put together and sounds so flawless. You can’t help but picture scenes of being at a hoedown where you and your partner are dancing round and round the room as the band plays. Both tracks are performed as a fast, folk-country fusion with some elements that remind you of ska. It’s simply a lovely affair that leaves you smiling.

As stated, this is only a three song EP that’s two thirds made-up of live performances, but it remains a lovely treat for anyone who listens to it. It just offers a little bit of positivity in your day and will leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling on the inside. You can’t go wrong with that.

Rating: 9/10
