Exploring Birdsong announce debut EP ‘The Thing With Feathers’
EXPLORING BIRDSONG have announced their debut EP!
Titled The Thing With Feathers, is the debut EP from the hotly-tipped trio and is scheduled to be released in November this year!
The upcoming EP is broadly speaking a concept release, centred on the Seamus Heaney poem Bye Child and the story of bHalfpenny, one of the most bizarre cases of child cruelty ever recorded. This is mirrored in the EP title and cover art with broken backbones becoming broken wings. The title itself also references Emily Dickinson’s “Hope is the thing with feathers” poem, which itself is a call-back to the music found within.
Alongside the announcement of the new EP, the band have released a new music video for a song lifted from the upcoming EP; titled The River.
Speaking of the track and its accompanying music video, the band says, “The River is the first song to be released under our new partnership with Long Branch Records, and is taken from our forthcoming debut EP, The Thing With Feathers. It’s actually one of the first songs that was written as a trio not long after we started university, so to finally be releasing it is really exciting. Although taken from the conceptual idea that encompasses all of the songs on the EP, it focuses more specifically on the idea that, based on perception, good and evil are never too far from each other and you may never really fully be able to have one without the other. As for the video, we’d jokingly thrown around the idea of filming in a water tank but assumed it to be too difficult to pull off. But, thanks to our director Shaun Hodson, it turned out way more beautiful than we ever imagined it could.”
