FESTIVAL PREVIEW: Be Prog! My Friend
Located in Barcelona, Be Prog! My Friend is an unusual festival. Catering for fans of all things progressive, this little festival has grown from it’s humble beginnings and is becoming a recognised name in the European festival circuit.
Situated at the open air surroundings of Poble Espanyol, a crucial tourist spot in the city, Be Prog! My Friend has grown in popularity since it’s inception in 2014. With the likes of ANATHEMA, KATATONIA, ALCEST and DEVIN TOWNSEND all gracing the festival in previous years, this quirky festival in the Spanish capital has the capability of attracting progressive music’s best talents.
2016 is no different and the lineup bolsters some of the best progressive music around; both old and new. Headlining the festival is STEVEN WILSON and OPETH, two artists at the summit of progressive music. OPETH‘s Mikael Åkerfeldt, says, “We’re very happy to return to the Be Prog! My Friend festival. A beautiful site, great line-up with many friends there. It’ll be a memorable event for me as a musician but also as a fan. I mean MAGMA, STEVEN WILSON, ANNEKE and BRUCE SOORD and his posse. What can go wrong? Absolutely nothing! It will be great!”
Also joining this year’s edition of the festival is BETWEEN THE BURIED & ME, MAGMA, TEXTURES, OBSIDIAN KINGDOM, THE PINEAPPLE THIEF and several others. With it’s varied attitude to progressive music and a friendly and intimate surroundings, Be Prog! My Friend is becoming a major force in the annual festival season.
Friday 1st July Is a free entry show only for those who have purchased tickets for the Saturday and with the bands starting to play from mid/late afternoon each day, visitors will have plenty of time to explore the stunning city of Barcelona.
