Haggard Cat release new music video for ‘Quit Your Jobs’

HAGGARD CAT have released a new music video!

The new music video, for the track Quit Your Jobs, is taken from the DIY UK rock band’s upcoming new EP, Cheer Up, which is scheduled to be released in September this year, via self-release. The new single is the band’s first new music since the release of 2020’s Common Sense Holiday.

After making the decision to part ways with their record label Earache Records, the band were approached by double-Grammy-Award-winning producer Adrian Bushby to start work on their first independent release since the band’s inception. The duo entered the studio in the Autumn of 2020, and with the help of Bushby produced their upcoming EP Cheer Up.

Speaking about the new song, guitarist/vocalist Matt Reynolds says, “when we were writing this group of songs, Quit Your Jobs was the first track that really jumped out and grabbed us, we knew instantly that it had to be the first thing people heard from this new body of work, it was just so aggressive and felt so much more immediate than what had come before; it felt like a mission statement for where we were going next. There was a sense that it was coming from a place of genuine anger and frustration and Adrian (Bushby) captured it perfectly on record. We wrote the lyrics about an actual series of bad advice that we received from our old record label. We were in a meeting with them, and they literally were sat there straight-faced refusing to work on a marketing plan with us, insisting our next move was to “quit your jobs”. They just kept repeating it, it was eery. Advice that also followed these pearls of wisdom was “fake your death” – I know this sounds made up but it’s 100% true.”

Speaking about the song’s accompanying music video, Reynolds continues, “we had seen videographers using huge crane rigs to achieve a similar effect and thought, ‘I bet we can build that!’, so we knocked-up this rickety looking frame out of planks of wood, palettes and sand-bags. It’s absolutely wild that it worked! It seems fairly apt that our first music video back working as a DIY band actually required a fair bit of DIY to make.”
