INTRODUCING: Omega Infinity
Space. The great beyond. The vast emptiness. A void so immensely enormous it goes beyond the capabilities of human understanding. It’s truly quite terrifying when you sit down and think about the sheer scope of the universe and the vast emptiness amongst the stars, and as such, makes for a phenomenal concept to explore across metal’s most extreme genres. This unimaginable blackness lies at the centre of OMEGA INFINITY‘s musical universe.
“OMEGA INFINITY sets out to fully embrace a universal and omnipresent darkness,” the band tells us. “You could say it is a logical culmination and exponentiation of what our main bands did. The universe is everywhere, anytime and inevitable. The root of our very existence – if not existence itself. The darkness is not necessarily beyond everything, but also in the space between everything. A view into the infinity of the micro- and macrocosm, an approximation via an infinitesimal curve towards the value of a natural number, the space between two atoms, or a fractal.”
Formed by Tentakel P. of TODTGELICHTER and Xen of NE OBLIVISCARIS, the musical bleakness of OMEGA INFINITY goes far beyond either of the member’s main bands. This new project dives far deeper into a musical void of fear and despair and as such is the perfect companion for the band’s concept of the bleakness of the cosmos. And in this concept birthed with debut album Solar Spectre, the duo have meticulously worked on every details to bring their vision to life. Everything from the striking artwork to the track names and their respective placement (each song is named after a planet or celestial body in our solar system) has their role in bringing OMEGA INFINITY‘s concept to life. This is something the band have strived hard to achieve and from what they tell us, marks only the beginning for their journey to the stars. “Let’s say we wanted to start small, at home on our own (so far) explored solar system,” they explain. “Future releases will journey beyond and will give a bigger picture of what The Void actually means to us. The whole concept of OMEGA INFINITY has already progressed much further than just our debut album and will continue to reveal itself to the listener throughout future releases.”
Whilst concept albums can often be bogged down by a band’s over ambition, you get the feeling that with OMEGA INFINITY they’ve had a gameplan from day one. Everything is calculated, every piece of their musical puzzle has its purpose to bring the concept to reality. Their music itself, whilst categorically lies within the black metal domain, evolves and shifts organically, representing each planet in our solar system. This vast tapestry of mood, emotion and even colour is something the duo intended to display right from the off. “Mood, dramaturgy, arrangements and lyrics were all crafted after an idea of how the planet (and star) in question appears and speaks to us, an amalgamation of the mythological roots of the name or just its presence in the Solar System. Basically, we have tried to capture the essence, the core of the soul of each planet known so far.”
Arguably, what is most exciting about OMEGA INFINITY is that the sheer vastness of the universe provides an endless source of inspiration for where they go next. Admittedly, science-fiction (both hard and fantasy) has been done to death and has had somewhat an impact on the band bringing the concept to life (“admittedly movies like Sunshine, Interstellar or serials like The Expanse and several others helped in picturing deeper thoughts about space albeit this only scratches at the surface”), but moving forward, the band can literally explore any known detail about our understanding of the great beyond. But, in actuality, one must remember that OMEGA INFINITY are a band and bringing oneself back to Earth, will this project ever enter the void on a live front?
“That, to call upon more mathematical terms, is not impossible but highly improbable under current circumstances. The whole thing with live performances (Both NE OBLIVISCARIS to a higher extent, but also TODTGELICHTER have had their fair share of experiences in that field) is that they open up a completely unrelated and additional area of work that requires a different focus than writing music. And then of course, although we have met in person several times over all the years, there is the distance between the two core members. A neglectable distance compared to the scale of our chosen concept but still big enough to thwart any realistic plans for live gigs, at least for now. But who knows what the future will bring.”
Just like the uncertainty of the cosmos and the expanding universe, who knows what the future will bring for OMEGA INFINITY. But, in the here and now, the void beckons. Join them.
Solar Spectre is set for release on March 27th via Season of Mist.
