LIVE REVIEW: Heart Attack Man @ The Flapper, Birmingham
After a successful set at 2000trees Festival, HEART ATTACK MAN bought their Freak of Na-TOUR to Birmingham’s iconic The Flapper venue to support their latest album Freak Of Nature. On what would usually be a quiet Sunday evening was replaced by an explosion of dynamic riffs and unapologetic tracks.
Support for this tour came from THICK, a punchy trio with tongue in cheek melodies drawing from their own personal experiences. Born from the DIY scene in New York, the trio really made the stage their own, with witty on-stage banter (including the audience also), paired with catchy riffs and a cool vibe. Creating a mosh pit during their set, it was safe to say that THICK’s first time in the UK was well received by gig-goers – and their energy was only reciprocated throughout their half hour set. The perfect support for this tour, THICK had come to prove that they weren’t a band to be messed with – and one to be on the look out for.

The Flapper provided an intimate and gritty setting for HEART ATTACK MAN‘s performance. The venue’s dark and grungy atmosphere perfectly complemented the band’s raw and energetic sound. The crowd, passionate and engaged throughout the night, added to the overall experience, creating a sense of unity and excitement – which was obvious from the get-go.
Lead singer, Eric Egan, commanded the stage with his dynamic vocals and captivating stage presence. His genuine connection with the audience was evident, as he created jokes (referring to the crowd as “The Birming-hammy Soldiers”) and general conversation on stage, to which the rest of the band happily chimed in to. It felt like a privilege to have such an intimate venue to experience HEART ATTACK MAN in, where the close connection between band and audience was genuine and heartfelt.
The performance itself was tight and powerful, showcasing the very best of their talent. The band’s chemistry on stage was palpable, as each member fueled the collective energy throughout the evening. With a strong setlist that was a perfect blend of older favourites (including Old Enough 2 Die, Cut My Losses and Low Hanging Fruit) and new material (including but not limited to C4, Like A Kennedy, Stick Up) ; satisfying both long-term fans and newcomers alike. The energy in the room was electrifying, with no sign of slowing down at any point.
HEART ATTACK MAN have already come a long way in their career, with a loyal fan-base to boot. Their live shows are an exhilarating watch, and hopefully there are many more well-deserved, good things to come from the HEART ATTACK MAN camp in the future!
