Moonspell announce new album ‘1755’
MOONSPELL have announced a brand new new studio album!
Portuguese gothic metallers MOONSPELL have revealed the first details of their upcoming eleventh studio album. Initially planned as a four-song bonus EP for the band’s upcoming Lisboa Under The Spell DVD/Blu-Ray (set for release in 2018), the release soon became a full length album entitled 1755, that will be produced by Tue Madsen, who previously worked with the band on their releases Under Satanae, Night Eternal and Alpha Noir/Omega White.
Based on the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755, the band have developed a lyrical concept for the record examining the death and rebirth of Lisbon and how the disaster changed Religion, Politics and Philosophy in the whole of Europe. The most notable detail revealed however, is that all vocals for the album will be sung entirely in Portuguese for the first time in MOONSPELL’s career. Speaking about the album, vocalist Fernando Ribeiro says “we fell in love with the concept and made perfect sense to sing it in our national language, Portuguese. I guess we were just waiting for the right opportunity to work on such an album. Musically it will be heavier than Extinct. It will be earthshaking but also very detailed with orchestrations and percussion as we want people to relive the Lisbon of the 18th century. Singing it in Portuguese, allowed me to find a different expression as a vocalist and my job is to be the survivor of the Earthquake, roaming the ruins and telling you all about it.”
MOONSPELL are set to hit the road in April for a series of tour dates and summer festival shows across Europe and Latin America. All announced dates can be seen below:
