Pinkshift announce new album ‘Earthkeeper’
PINKSHIFT have announced a new album!
Titled Earthkeeper, the upcoming album from the Baltimore-based alternative band is the follow-up to 2022’s Love Me Forever, and is scheduled to be released in August this year, via Hopeless Records.
“The first album was influenced a lot by stuff we grew up listening to because we’d never really toured,” says drummer Myron Houngbedji. “It’d really cool that now, after all this touring, there’s bits and pieces of all these bands we wouldn’t otherwise have listened to that have weaved their way into our songwriting.” Vocalist Ashrita Kumar adds, “I think with this record, I’m trying to inspire you to, give a fuck. You’re worth giving a fuck about. I feel like people don’t give a fuck about themselves but in the same way those redwood trees told me I’m welcome here, you matter and you belong here.”
Alongside the announcement of the new album, PINKSHIFT have released a new music video from the upcoming album; Anita Ride. The new song is the second single to be released from the upcoming album, following on from Evil Eye.
“It’s essentially a release, a reminder, a cathartic moment to give yourself permission to share the weight that you feel in the moments you feel heavy with grief with others and give yourself credit for everything you have done,” states Kumar. “I felt like this song was a moment where we all very obviously, as a band, shed our old skin. This is the first track you hear [guitarist] Paul [Vallejo] and [drummer] Myron [Houngbedji] singing prominently on a track – we are all intentionally united. I found my roar. What made me more powerful in this moment was leaning into losing control, leaning into trusting my community, and leaning into the uncertainty and chaos that are the transitions of life.
The second verse was inspired by KENDRICK [LAMAR] for me. I wanted to channel the way that he talks to his higher self in his greatest moment of self-doubt, because self-doubt is the enemy of creativity. The feeling that I have less is the enemy of my prosperity.”
