PREMIERE: Cruor – Iron Altar
Distorted Sound is delighted to premiere the brand new track from IRON ALTAR!
The Edinburgh based outfit offer up slabs of groove ridden, doom injected riffs which have provided the solid foundations since their inception in 2015 and are now working on the follow up to 2018’s highly regarded Pillars Of Blood album.
Speaking about the track, guitarist Daniel Drever tells us, “Our vocalist Andrew Callis created a backstory to the song Cruor (coagulated blood; gore) based on the idea of a volcano erupting which places a prehistoric tribe in jeopardy. They look to the deer priest to save them. His answer is to make a sacrifice to the god(s). The point is to think about the crazy lengths people have gone to in the name of religion. The deer skull and other props were handcrafted by Callis and his girlfriend Allana. The deer priest has been a constant in all our artwork from day one so we were really pleased to be able to incorporate that. We had to adapt our initial and work indoors as storm Dennis ruined our plans, plus our director Ryan was getting ready to emigrate to the USA only weeks later! We had a lot of fun with various lights, a smoke machine and plenty of booze! We worked with Jamie Gilchrist (KING WITCH) for recording, mixing and mastering the track. He did a fantastic job with our E.P. and our Pillars Of Blood album so it was a no-brainer to go back to him for this single. We had a different approach going into this recording from the previous releases and took some time to set out how we wanted the track to sound before recording. The outcome is a sound we’re really happy with.”
