PREMIERE: Eternal Blue & The Frontier – Ares One
We here at Distorted Sound are delighted to premiere the new double track from instrumental solo project ARES ONE!
Eternal Blue & The Frontier is a new standalone release by progressive metal enthusiast Reece Spencer which follows on from his well received 2018 EP release entitled Optimist.
Speaking about the tracks Reece tells us, “the two tracks were originally meant to be track one and track two of an EP but as I got further and further into writing The Frontier it ended up growing into a much longer track than I thought it would. It didn’t really gel thematically with the other songs I have in the works so it made sense to release them as a standalone work. As for why the two tracks have been glued together into one longer one, I thought about the way music is generally consumed nowadays on Spotify, I decided I’d spare people the annoyance of having the first track build up to a transition but then abruptly shuffling to a totally different song.”
Reece acquired the services of long time friend and artist Linzi Goldstone to help bring his music to life. “When I thought about how I wanted to present the song, I knew I wanted the imagery of space exploration to be almost inseparable from the music. I was thinking about ideas for album art when I got stuck into the idea of creating a moving piece of art; so I whipped up a very rough draft with multiple animated solid-colour layers and some pictures appropriated from Google to demonstrate the idea, then got in touch with my friend Linzi, who’s been drawing pretty much as long as I’ve known her, to see if she’d be interested in getting involved. We went back and forth talking about inspiration and art style, I’ve heard a few No Man’s Sky comparisons from people who’ve seen the album art and that was definitely something that we talked about, but there were definitely half a dozen other video games we talked about; if you know me you’ll probably be able to list a few more of them. I’m really happy with how it all came together and I hope when people hear the song, Linzi‘s artwork really helps sell the vibe I’ve tried to create in the music.”
