PREMIERE: Shallow Ground – We Are The Catalyst

We here at Distorted Sound are delighted to premiere the new music video from WE ARE THE CATALYST!

The new music video, for the track Shallow Ground, is the brand new single from the Swedish alternative metal band and is a taster of their upcoming new album, Perseverance, which is expected to be released later this year.

Speaking about the new song, vocalist Cat Fey tells us, “Shallow Ground actually started as a challenge! A person we used to work with once joked that we couldn’t just write a basic catchy rock song fitting for mainstream rock radio, without putting in our usual twists or cross-over elements. We wanted to prove him wrong, which we believe we did! It basically just took us an evening to write the entire song, as it seemed to be writing itself. We are very proud of the result and glad he pushed us towards it!”

Guitarist/vocalist Kenny Boufadene adds, “well, the song is about enduring tough times, falling down and getting back up. Hence the lyric line “I will bury my heart in shallow ground”, which basically means shielding yourself by turning off your emotions to get through a hard situation, so that you can find yourself again. In the video, we symbolize this by using chess pieces, showing an ongoing struggle where we are also hinting that we are part of the game. It´s no secret that we have been partly inspired by the amazing Netflix show Queens Gambit and wanted to honour it in this way.”
