Schammasch announce new album ‘The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean’

SCHAMMASCH have announced a new album!

Titled The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean, the upcoming album from the Swiss avant-garde black metal band is the follow-up to 2019’s Hearts Of No Light, and is scheduled to be released in October this year, via Prosthetic Records. The upcoming album is the second in the band’s Maldoror Chants series, with the second chapter coming on the back of 2017’s The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite.

The ongoing series of works draws from Les Chants de Maldoror – one of the 19th century’s most fascinating literary works which would later become part of the foundation of the surrealist movement. For The Maldoror Chants: Old Ocean, SCHAMMASCH have specifically drawn inspiration from sections of the text that serve as a hymn to the splendour of the ocean as well as a provocative comparison between ocean and humanity, sardonically highlighting the latter’s inferiority.

As has increasingly become the case, many of the album’s production duties were carried out by the band’s chief songwriter, C.S.R. Additional engineering was handled by Michael Zech [THE RUINS OF BEVERAST, SECRETS OF THE MOON], with further engineering, mixing and mastering courtesy of Markus Stock [EMPYRIUM, THE VISION BLEAK]. As with The Maldoror Chants: Hermaphrodite, the artwork for the release was created by Mexican surrealist Héctor Pineda, with the layout completed by C.S.R’s own Eye of Saros.

Alongside the announcement of the new album, SCHAMMASCH have released a new music video for a new song lifted from the upcoming new album; They Have Found Their Master. The new song features guest contributions from Kathrine Shepard of SYLVAINE.

Speaking about the new song, the band says, They Have Found Their Master is the looming of a tempest wave closing in, the destructive force of a monolithic wall of water, swallowing everything in its way to culminate in the melodic furiosity of classic 90s black metal towards the end, additionally embellished by Kathrine Shepard‘s hauntingly beautiful vocal contribution.”
