Top 10 Albums of 2018 By For I Am King
There’s just over a week to go until we welcome in a new year and we here at Distorted Sound are continuing our reflection of 2018 with another end of year list! This time, we welcome Dutch metallers FOR I AM KING to give us their collective top 10 albums of the year. Having released their stunning new album, I, two weeks ago and are now currently preparing to make 2019 their year, we thought it be fitting that the quintet give us an insight to their favourites. So, over to vocalist Alma, guitarists Wouter and Koen, bassist Jurgen and drummer Jaap, take it away guys!
10. Thechnology – DON BROCO
Alma: Because Rob Damisni is bae. No this band is so fresh and I love the variety on this album!
9. Nadir – BLACK TONGUE
Jaap: This album is so heavy and filthy, loving it!
8. New Levels New Devils – POLYPHIA
Koen: One of the sickest guitar oriented albums I’ve heard in a while. Incredibly admirable how these guys are able to incorporate hip hop grooves with technical and intricate guitar playing while remaining to be really groovy, easy to listen and great songs.
7. Reverence – PARKWAY DRIVE
FOR I AM KING: Who doesn’t likes PARKWAY DRIVE 😉
6. Holy Hell – ARCHITECTS
Koen/Jurgen: This is exactly the album ARCHITECTS needed after everything they went through. Top notch production and great songs full of emotion and aggression.
5. Terrorvision – ABORTED
Wouter: I can listen to these guys blasting all day long!
4. Era – BLEED FROM WITHIN
Jurgen: This record is so groovy and catchy, while keeping the BLEED FROM WITHIN signature. Loving it!
3. To Drink From The Night Itself – AT THE GATES
FOR I AM KING: We simply love the Gothfathers of the modern Gothenburg riffing
2. Eternal Nightmare – CHELSEA GRIN
Jurgen: Damn heavy and angry. Also loving the mix/master Jeff (who also did I) did on this record.
1. Phronesis – MONUMENTS
Koen: The kings of djent!
And that rounds off the list from FOR I AM KING, what did you make of their choices? Let us know in the comments! In the meantime, check out our interview with vocalist Alma Alizadeh. Keep posted to Distorted Sound as we continue to bring you guest roundups of 2018.
