Top 10 Albums of 2018 by Nailed To Obscurity
With just seven days to go until we welcome in a new year, we here at Distorted Sound are still happily reflecting on 2018 and the staggering amount of quality albums the year has delivered. Today, we welcome German melodic death metal crew NAILED TO OBSCURITY as they present their collective list of the top 10 records released throughout the year. With their fourth studio album, Black Frost, set to drop in January, now is the perfect time for the quintet to give us an insight into their favourite albums from this year. Take it away guys!
10. Wasteland – RIVERSIDE
Even though most albums in this list are rather heavy, we also enjoy mellow and atmospheric music. This is very atmospheric and beautiful progressive rock.
9. Sounds From The Vortex – THE SPIRIT
Really good black metal, similar to DISSECTION. This has been their debut album and we are looking forward to hearing more from these guys.
8. Eonian – DIMMU BORGIR
It almost seemed to us as if the band was not existing anymore, so this album felt like their comeback record to us and we think they totally delivered on this one.
7. I Loved You At Your Darkest – BEHEMOTH
This certain atmosphere the band creates not only on their records, but also live, is simply fascinating. We were totally into their previous album The Satanist and this new album is another masterpiece, luckily following for us, following a similar route as its predecessor.
6. Mark of the Necrogram – NECROPHOBIC
Everyone who is into blackened death metal should check this one out! All killers, no fillers!
5. Down Below – TRIBULATION
Yet another great album of one of the most interesting bands at the moment. This album sounds like a matured version of what the band started on their previous album The Children Of The Night, which we loved already.
4. Firepower – JUDAS PRIEST
I think there is not much to say about this one. If you like JUDAS PRIEST, you have to like this one.
3. The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn – BLOODBATH
We’ve always been fans of BLOODBATH and there are some serious crushers on this album.
2. Don’t Waste Your Time – IDLE HANDS
This is actually an EP and not an album, but still worth mentioning. We can’t really tell what it is. Some kind of mixture of heavy metal, 80s wave and sometimes even melancholic melodies in the vein of old KATATONIA.
1. Diluvium – OBSCURA
One of the best technical death metal bands out there at the moment, at least in our opinion. Especially because they are so melodic but also heavy at the same time and even catchy despite their technical approach.
And that rounds off the top 10 albums of the year from NAILED TO OBSCURITY! What did you make of their list? Let us know in the comments below!
Black Frost is set for release on January 11th via Nuclear Blast Records. Catch the band supporting SOILWORK and AMORPHIS at the Electric Ballroom in London on February 4th.
