EP REVIEW: Alone In Death – Crown Magnetar

Deathcore heavyweights CROWN MAGNETAR have gathered a frightening level of traction in such a short span of time, already having toured with some of the biggest names the genre has to offer. Their debut album The Codex Of Flesh received rave reviews last year and they are poised to strike again in quick succession with Alone In Death which is due for release on March 25th via Unique Leader Records. Are you sure you’re prepared for this white-knuckle juggernaut?

Alone In Death immediately lunges for your throat as crushing riff work joins forces with vicious guttural assaults. Throw in some crazy drumming and swarming atmospherics and this track will have you gasping for breath as it relentlessly beats it out of you. Hellsphere continues to wreak havoc with intense waves packed with ferocity. Whether it is swift technicality or dense riffs stomping a hole in your skull your senses are attacked from all angles. Punishing blast beats are reeled off with unforgiving precision to kick Realistic Flesh Mask into another gear. The haunting melodies form a powerful alliance with mind-bending lead work, leaving your head spinning off your shoulders.

The Pain Of Existence keeps the momentum flowing in a devastating fashion. Skin searing screams run riot as additional barbaric instrumentation maintains the aggressive rhythmic pummelling. Graverot goes into overdrive, hitting a level of speed that a human being should not be capable of. The drum sequences are simply jaw dropping. The tempo shifts as it progresses only prove to make the onslaught more potent. God Is My Enemy possesses a multitude of intricate layers that demand you pay attention to every little flourish of insanity. Mesmerizing musicianship leaves its stamp all over this track.

Alone In Death may be relatively short and to the point but it harbours so much explosive content it should be considered a lethal weapon. It is probably just as well that this effort is not a full-length as your ears may not survive this sheer level of violence for extended periods. CROWN MAGNETAR have gone for maximum impact with this release and you’d be unwise to dare stand in its path for fear of being trampled into dust.
