ALBUM REVIEW: Eternity – A Wake In Providence
New York’s A WAKE IN PROVIDENCE have made impressive strides thus far in their career, catching the eye of one of the world’s top tier extreme metal labels in Unique Leader Records. It is now time for them to unveil their latest installment entitled Eternity which is available now! Will this release set them apart from some already impressive releases this year in the realm of deathcore?
An Odyssey Through The River (Overture) may surprise listeners by commencing with a clean, melodic introduction rather than immediately smashing you right between the eyes. Fear not it is coming and provides no mercy. The Horror Ov The Old Gods doesn’t take long to get settled, offering up hammering drum beats and scathing vocal outbursts laced with fury. The sharp-edged tempo shifts keep you on your toes.
We Are Eternity unleashes waves of black metal-infused carnage, seamlessly blending frenzied riff segments with ominous symphonic elements. This also enables the beatdowns to pounce with maximum impact. Siamo Legati Dal Terrore hits like a freight train, punishing you with vicious rounds of blast beats intertwined with slick vocal transitions. From stomping grooves to rapid-fire rhythmic rushes of adrenaline, this track refuses to allow any level of complacency.
The Hunt Ov The Wraith (First Movement) utilises its chorus sections to great effect, allowing powerful melodies to cut through the looming clouds and darkness. Prominent leadwork also enhances the dramatic narrative. The intriguing orchestrations flow straight into The Book Ov The Eldritch (Second Movement), which dials up the intensity with additional destructive drum beats. Gruesome gutturals grab this track by its throat, refusing to loosen its grip. The Court Ov The Trinity (Final Movement) combines the best parts of the first and second installments and conjures up an exhilarating piece crammed with thrilling moments. It is a mouth-watering prospect to consider this trilogy being reeled off in a live environment.
Weep into The Abyss, For it Hears You Not… allows for a brief period to unpack what has just unfolded, subtle piano notes float gracefully between gusts of wind. Vicious Attenuation has no such intention to provide a calming opportunity to catch your breath. Jarring instrumentation intends to rid you of your remaining sanity as expertly executed technicality takes centre stage.
A WAKE IN PROVIDENCE have proved that they are not just another cookie cutter deathcore band with this release. Eternity is packed with impressive levels of creativity that keep you engaged and songs of extensive length fly by as you are whisked away through a journey of proficient diversity. The departure of Will Ramos left a big question mark over the future longevity of the band but it may have opened the door for an even more exciting era to come to fruition.
